it's not me, it's you.
let me begin by saying, I do not consider myself to be a dating expert. In fact, I sometimes wonder what's wrong with me! This is simply an outlet to share adventures in dating and the single life - the good, bad, ugly, and hilarious. I've tried almost everything. My first disaster date occurred when I was only 16 years old and ten years later I'm still on the market &sharing ridiculous stories with family and friends.

the time I went on a date with a guy who had a girlfriend
this entire period of my life was a little ridiculous. I cried, I laughed, but mostly cried to my roommates, brother, mother, & father. my boyfriend - the one I thought I would marry and make beautiful babies with - broke up with me out of the blue and I was DEVASTATED. We've all been there and I really hope I never go back. I'm pretty sure one of my biffers would have my head if I ever ventured back to crazy town. Anyway, it was 4th of July weekend and I met my ex-boyfriend for dinner to try to win him back. I failed, but not miserably. I had a very brief moment of clarity - only lasting that holiday weekend - and realized I was much better off without him and his "crazy life" and drama. I decided I needed to celebrate and my brother needed to celebrate with me. We went to one of our favorite watering holes. My favorite nights are usually the ones that aren't planned. We didn't intend to go out big, but let me tell you, we paid for our partying the next day and the next day after that. So we're at the bar and order the (late) dinner of champions: chicken wings & tater tots. While my brother is chowing down, I make friends with the two dudes next to us. I was still feeling *really* good from my dinner with the ex, so I strike up a conversation with the two handsome gentlemen next to me. They looked out of place so naturally I gravitated to these former frat guys. One thing led to another, and we established that I was in fact not dating my brother, we were not twins, and I was single. This stuff never happens to me, but both of these guys were trying to win me. It was a battle and I loved every second of it. Jamie was smart and started buying my brother drinks and shots. We were having a grand time. Then out of nowhere - another dude arrives and starts hitting on me. For realz, I had 3 guys fighting for my attention. I don't juggle guys so I did what I do best and starting drinking more to calm my nerves. At one point, dude #3 asks my brother if he can kiss me....awkward. My brother allows it only because he is 3 sheets to the wind and this guy kisses my brother on the cheek and then kisses me on the cheek. I promise you, this happened. I can't recall everything that happened that evening, but I do know my brother ordered shots of Jager and the cheek kisser spit his shot out on the back of my head. Clearly he was not man enough for me and he was out of the race to be my guyfriend for the evening. Jamie asks for my number which I of course gave to him. He was hot and serenaded me at a bar - how could I say no?! I may have been very inebriated, but I knew it was best for me to spend the night alone so I kindly told Jamie we should go our separate ways that evening but I would love to see him again. I had just enough time to brush my teeth, wash my face, and drag myself to bed before I got my first text from Jamie. This kid would not take no for answer until I spoke to him on the phone and convinced him to go back to his friend's house to spend the night. The next day we texted non-stop. Then after the holiday weekend, the texts were less frequent and he often responded early in the morning or late at night. Odd, but I just assumed he was a busy guy, I mean, he sold insurance... this went on for about 2 weeks until we finally made concrete plans to meet up. He picked me up and my biffer approved of him. The date was going really well - great conversation! we talked about everything and made friends with the bartender who introduced us to some really wonderful beers. On our 2nd beer, he says, "I have to tell you something..." Okay, I brace myself, "I'm seeing someone...." What?! Yup, Jamie had a girlfriend already. Was I shocked? nope. This is how it goes for me. Jamie then told me about Mary, his girlfriend, and was very confused because he really liked me, but had dated Mary for 2 months and it was going well. I talked him down from the ledge he put himself on and told him it would be best for both parties if we didn't see each other again and he stayed with Mary. The following week, Jamie introduced me to Mary at a concert. She was exactly how he described her and I could actually see myself being friends with her. There is it, the time I went on a date with a guy with a girlfriend.

the time I went on my first blind date
my first hope of landing a boyfriend in high school was also my first blind date. a mutual friend met said blind date at work and thought we would be *perfect* for one another because we were both a) single and b) nice. The last adjective you want before your gender is nice... "he's a nice guy, BUT" In high school, I was type casted as the "nice girl." Pretty sure no one wanted to date me because they didn't want to corrupt me or they thought I was a prude. I have to admit now, both were true. Anyway, back to my blind date. I don't recall his name or any physical features, I just remember he drove a pick-up truck and liked camping. I provided him with awful directions including such landmarks as "the big yellow house on Main Street" and "2nd set of traffic lights." Only residents of my podunk town would be familiar with those made up landmarks. He called me lost and frustrated from his truck, and I pieced together where he was and successfully got him to my house. If we hit it off that night and continued dating and got married and lived happily ever after, it would have been the cutest first date story ever, "your mother had no sense of direction and provided me with terrible directions, with no GPS, I had to call her... " But we didn't hit it off and I am still single. He planned a typical 1st Date: Movie & Dinner. To this day, I cannot watch Mr. Deeds without being reminded of that night. Blind Date #1 told me after the movie, we would go to a local diner. Awesome. No need to order popcorn or candy or an oversized soda at the movies - Score! We continued to chat en route to Mr. Deeds. He mentioned he really enjoyed camping. My response: I hate camping. Not that I dislike it or had a bad experience or would love to give it another go, just simply, I hate camping. ugh, rookie mistake. Almost positive, in his mind, the date was over. I provided him with crappy directions and hated his favorite hobby. I was not a keeper. He was kind enough to purchase my movie ticket though. For me, the date ended when I realized he was driving me straight home and not to the diner as he informed me on the way to the theater. He didn't even walk me to the front door, just a nice to meet you. THE END. My first blind date was a disaster, not to worry though, I did go on the most wonderful and neverending blind date years later in College. More on that later.
